Within the name is also the word leaven, echoing the parable where the Kingdom of Heaven is like yeast—something small, almost hidden, yet quietly transforming everything it touches. This is the church in community.
— Congregation in Nova Scotia

When the mission travels

We hear a lot of things from the congregations we work with. But nothing stops us quite like hearing our own mission reflected back to us — in someone else's words.

A congregation in Nova Scotia recently introduced Relèven to their community this way:

In the world of social change, the prefix "re" appears again and again — reimagine, renew, restore — so it became a natural place to begin.

From there, deeper meaning unfolded. The United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals offer a shared vision for a more just and sustainable future for all. Goal 11 focuses on building sustainable communities. Re-eleven.

Within the name is also the word leaven, echoing the parable where the Kingdom of Heaven is like yeast — something small, almost hidden, yet quietly transforming everything it touches. This is the church in community.

And in French, “la relève” speaks to the next generation — the passing on of work from one to another, so that it may continue to grow and flourish.

This is exactly why we do this work. Not just to unlock the potential of a building — but to help communities find language for what they've always known: that their property is a gift, and that gift belongs to the neighbourhood.
